1962 Fender Bassman

Holy Moly, what a treat.

This is a 6G6B model Bassman from late 1962. It had been bought by the current owner in 1975 and used as a bass amp for years without any work done on it. It was a USA model with a very dodgy step up transformer! The amp cabinet was in a poor state and had, at some point been re-tolexed, Bassmans at that time were in the Blonde period with a couple of different grill cloth colours. The circuit itself was all original and mostly in good condition.

The owner and I had a long chat about options, we needed a lot of new valves and upgrading the electrolytic capacitors which is standard practice with these amps. We also decided in the end to get it back to its original tolex and grill cloth with a new back panel being made.

In the end it sounded absolutely amazing and was a treat to play with. More of these please!
