Marshall JCM900 (KT88)

This one came in as part of a pair. The other JCM900 was a similar age and was stock, this one had been modded.

Instead of four EL34 power valves we have two KT88s, not a complicated swap and the aim is for a slightly quieter but cleaner amp (and yes I know those valve retaining caps are not the right ones!). The owner was keen on using pedals to drive the amp hard.

The owner had another concern which was that there was too much high-end and in gigs would often have the treble pot at minimum and still struggle with the balance. After a bit of thinking we opted to install this little yellow capacitor to create a subtle roll off at the top end which balanced the high and low frequencies but didn’t affect the yummy Marshall sound.
